My dearest T, You are absolutely in the RIGHT and your boss is absolutely in the WRONG! If you are only required to work certain hours and you are working extra then you are doing them a huge favour out of the goodness of your heart. She, or anyone else, has no right to demand you stay later unless it is a legitimate reason or an emergency - waiting for her computer to be delivered is neither an emergency or a requirement of your job, especially if you have something as important as Daniel's school play! You are already working an extra hour so you have nothing to feel guilty about. So sorry you;re in so much pain though- siatica originates from the back. It can be brought on by stress, yes, and is very very painful and debilitating, I have NO idea how you're managing with work as well as everything else to contend with. http://www.mothernature....kshelf/Books/48/176.cfm
I am looking for some natural remedies for this. There is osteopathy.. Love, A

Hi Tina, Sorry to hear what a bad time you are having, they really shouldn't be making you work all those extra hours. Has the GP not even referred you for physio for your sciatica? It helped my husband when he had it. Sounds as if you could do with a few weeks off!
Love, Doreen xx

Oh Tina,
You are in need of our magic wand! You need to rest and just do some gentle exercise with sciatica. Have you seen your GP re this and asked him to sign you off work for a few weeks?
Do you belong to a union? It sounds as if you could do with a word in their ears about this person! You work the hours that you are contracted to work and anything over that needs to be paid!
I hope that Dan enjoys his break and that you will not be too tense when he is away. Hard as it is, it will do him good to be independent of your help for a while. Sadly, our children all need to stand on their own two feet eventually and breaks like this are very good preperation for this.
Look after yourself. I can imagine that you are always on the go with Christmas coming up. Hope that you take some time out to relax.

Hi Tina, sorry about your boss, she sounds a nightmare. I think when you are accomodating, they take you for granted. Have you tried a hot water bottle for your sciatica, I find it helps a little.
Go back to the gp about Daniels asthma, they can refer them to a specialist. My Dans asthma is so well controlled now, he plays for a footie team!! When he was first referred he couldn't even go outside if it was cold or damp else it brought on a severe attack!!
I hope you can get something sorted about work, you don't need to be working extra all the time, you have to think of yourself!!

Hi Tina, Oh what a mean old boss you have!! She is just taking advantage of your good nature, and you are completely in the right to leave her to wait for her own computer. I`m so sorry about the sciatica - I get it frequently and it is horrible because there is just no peace with it. Warmth sometimes helps, and gentle stretching. I have the amitriptyline to help at night.........have you been offered these? I do hope you can better help with Dan`s asthma, and I hope you all enjoy your Christmas break. You are bound to worry when Dan goes away, but in the long term it will help his independence. I know what you mean though, about growing up - the time seems to fly by, and suddenly they`re not little boys anymore! Mind you, I don`t think a parent ever really stops worrying about their children, grown-up or not!! Take care, Tina, Kathleen x

Good news Tina re the head doctor. Write all your symptoms down, even the ones that are not so bothersome at the moment. If the pain comes and then goes from anywhere eg a joint, then write it down. Scribble as you remember throughout the week then write it into 'bullet points' before the appointment. This is a good opportunity so use the time to tell it as it really is!!!!!
I am sure that Dan is having a great time and his birthday would have been made memorable just by the fact of being away.
Good luck,
Eleanor x

Hi Tina,
What your boss is doing to you is tantamount to harassment and a form of bullying, definitely not ON. Amanda is right you are working beyond your contracted hours and she needs to be reminded about this.
I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering with siatica and don't know how you've managed to work with it. The only thing that I know helps is to rest and to take pain killers.
I hope that Daniel had a lovely Birthday and that his asthma has settled. I found that cutting out dairy helps to reduce the build up of mucus on the lungs helped ease my asthma.
love,

Hi Tina
So sorry to read that both you and your husband are unwell, and you are having problems at your work, surely if you are working extra hours then being abused by your boss this is abuse of position, and it needs to be sorted, do you have a union rep, as for the sciatica can you not force your Gp to send your husband for Physiotherapy, or do you have a Gp whose attitude is keep taking the pills and "don't rock the boat" Kind, I know there is a lot of them about.
Take care

Hi Tina
Sorry you have to put up with such a mean boss, it's something you could do without. Good for you for standing up for yourself at last, it really does sound as though she takes you for granted. And yes, it wouldn't surprise me if the extra stress is aggravating the sciatica, which in itself is awful, I know.
Dan will have a wonderful time, as you know, but that doesn't stop you worrying and missing him. Never mind, he'll soon be home.
Take care

Take care Tina, and if you are not in a union then citizen's advice can be very helpful - they have access to legal representatives and sometimes you can book a specific appointment time with a legal professional. Your work situation is just not acceptable, I really hope you are able to resolve some of these problems, it's not just unfair it's not legal - you are entitled to be treated much much better. Thinking of you, hope Daniel's party goes really well and that you have a few helpers? xxx
